Beefcake of the Week ~ Daryl

Hi Daryl!

The Optimist Creed:
“Promise Yourself
To be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind.
To talk health, happiness and prosperity to every person you meet.
To make all your friends feel that there is something in them.
To look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true.

Beefcake of the Week ~ Ray

Hi Ray!

What’s your idea of a perfect date?
“For me, a perfect date must be uninterrupted bonding time with your boyfriend. It doesn’t matter where you go or what you do. Staying connected, reminding each other why you are a couple, why you both chose each other. Make each other laugh, flirt with each other, kiss, hold hands, comfortable silent pauses of looking at each other, reconfirm with each other that no one else shares what you both have. This pulls you in even closer.
You should do this all the time, but on a date, at that moment, no one else should exist. And the cell phones NEVER come out.”

How would you describe your personal interior design style?
“My home is simple, warm and welcoming with unique pieces. I think each piece should stand on it’s own. With my mild case of ocd, I don’t like having a lot of stuff all over the place. I also have to have art and photo stills hanging. Bare walls will drive me nuts. I have several Frida Kahlo, Tamara de Lempicka and Picasso prints I’ve transferred to canvas and I have framed photos from my friend Johan Jansson. He shot a series of Frida Kahlo inspired pictures that are just beautiful. It’s amazing how art and photos can completely transform a room.”

What kind of music do you listen to?
“My iTunes grows weekly. I listen to ABBA, Charles Mingus, Jill Scott, Pavaroti, Morrissey, Zero 7 and EVERYTHING in between. I love that music has the power to change your mood, instantly. It sets the tone for any environment you’re in. I love to dance, so when I go out and there’s tribal and vocal house playing (*DJ Paulo*), you can bet my ass will be on a speaker in 5 seconds.”

Location: Montreal, Canada
Height: 5’ 10”
Hair: Dark dirty blonde
Eyes: Green Hazel
Sign: “Leo – An Italian Leo no doubt.”

Fitness Routine:
“I’ve been getting into the best shape I’ve ever been. It’s taken a couple years to get to this point with conscious eating, excersise and most importantly, having the proper mind set. Fitness starts in your head. The way I saw myself, in my 40s as a gay man, changed and I started to become comfortable in my own skin.
Once you remove the pressure of wanting to measure up to others, of trying to impress others, of trying to fit into a certain mold, you start to stand strong and can focus on you and then, it all starts to fall into place. That’s what I love about the Bear community. We are all different shapes and sizes.
I’m very blessed to have a body that puts on muscle mass easily. I work 14/16 + hour days, so I have to set timers to remind myself to eat every 3 hours. When I’m off work, I try to go to the gym twice a day, 4 (ish) times a week. Weights in the morning for an hour, then cross fit in the late afternoon or cardio, (bike, swim or whatever I feel like on the day). For weights, I have my trainer design me 3 different work out plans. I work out with him once with each plan, then I follow the plans for 6 weeks, then I go see him again and switch it up. I get bored easily and get quickly distracted, so….and…what was I saying? Anyways.
Ashtanga Yoga is also very important for me. Keeps the body limber.
Meditation is a must. Calms the mind.”

Occupation: “2nd Assistant Director on American Films. I make sure the Director has everything he needs to shoot the movie, then I help him shoot it.”

Hobbies: “Since the winters in Montreal are so brutal (exasperated sigh), I like to spend most of my summer outdoors. Hiking, mountain biking, rugby, ridding my Harley and hanging with friends. Been traveling lots lately whenever it tickles my fancy. Love cooking and eating. I’m Italian so I can cook like a mother fucker and I can eat forever. I’ve also been collecting pop up books for many years. I have almost every one of Robert Sabuda’s 1st Edition, 1st Print books. And tending to my garden of Italian tomatoes. It’s rather meditative.”

Guilty Pleasure Snack: “CAKE! Lots of it (I’m a fat girl inside).”

TV Faves: “I don’t watch tv so I try to choose series to watch. Sense8, you have my full attention right now. And all 7 seasons of The Golden Girls of course.”

Last good movie you saw: “I honestly can’t remember and I should considering what I do for work.”

Currently Reading: “I recently finished reading Kristen Johnston’s memoir, guts. Holy shit!
and now, I’m gonna re-read The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.”

Turn Ons: “Old fashioned (like me), humble, honest and can make me laugh. A guy who loves to eat. Holding hands while walking. Someone who is confident and stands next to me as an equal. Having each others backs and treating each other like Kings. Finding sweet notes tucked into your coat pocket or gym bag (Ugh, that makes me melt). His smell on the sheets in the morning. Seeing his jock on the floor after a workout and then wearing it. Fur, man smell and tree trunk legs. Did I mention man smell? WOOF!”

Turn Offs:
“1.Guys who believe in their own hype. IG is just for fun. It’s not a competition and there is no prize in the end.
2.Guys who body shame others. Putting people down because they don’t have the ideal or perfect or most desired body doesn’t make you hotter. It makes you a Cunt and a Basic Bitch. So stay humble.”

Personal Philosophy :
“The best advise I’ve gotten was from my dad. In 1997. We were having lunch in Milan & he said to me (loosely translated from Italian):
“Renato, IF you have to leave, try to leave that person or that place better than how you found them. This will make you a better man”.
That was a pivotal point of my life. It’s about the time when my journey into Buddhism started. I miss him terribly.”

Bearnamic Duo: Dick & Duane!

12238494_983638355012399_1173984989868548158_oYour rabid fan base knows you as “Dick & Duane” ~ are those your real names?

“I don’t think our fans are rabid! Well, maybe some might need a distemper shot. But as for the names, Duane is really Duane. Although many people know him by his nickname “Ape,” and I’m “Monkey.” I prefer to be called Richie (I actually hate the name “Dick” because it reminds me of people like Nixon and Cheney, although who doesn’t love Dick Van Dyke?), but making a pun of the children’s book series “Dick and Jane” was just too irresistible and catchy. However, I wonder how many younger people even get that reference since these books — which were used, from the 1930s through 70s, to teach kids to read through word repetition — had already been phased out and replaced by phonics by the time they were born. OK, if any young people out there are reading this and are confused, just google “Dick and Jane” and quit busting my chops. You might have to google that idiom, too.”

How did that all start?

“How did Dick and Jane start? As I said, it was in the 1930s and they were designed to teach kids how to — oh, wait, do you mean how did we start calling ourselves Dick and Duane? Well, it was 1989 and we decided we wanted to enter “show biz.” It was a very exciting time in NYC nightlife and we were seeing so many creative and talented people (our favorites were Joey Arias and Ann Magnuson as Andy Warhol and Edie Sedgwick in “The Andy & Edie Show” at Danceteria). We felt inspired to get up on stage and do our thing. We made our debut at The Pyramid Club on Aug. 13 that year. We did four musical/comedic numbers and left the crowd screaming for more. We were hooked.”

How did you guys meet?

“Slowly. We silently stared at each other for two months before saying our first words to each other. It was my first year (Duane’s second) at Rutgers College and we were taking Intro to Art History, sitting on opposite sides of a large lecture hall. We were both virgins, completely inexperienced and I guess a little shy. Plus, we had no idea how to tell if another guy were gay. Anyway, little by little, for those two months, Duane moved his seat closer and closer to mine. On Oct. 26, 1981, he got to class late and seized the opportunity to finally sit next to me. He asked, “What are we looking at?” and my first words to him were “I love you.” He thought I was crazy but I meant it because I’d had all that time to fall in love!”

How long have you been together?

“One week. (Plus 34 years.)”

Was it love at first sight or did it take a few dates?

“As you already know, for me, it was love at first sight, but Duane needed a few weeks — OK, months — of persuasion. And some hypnosis.”

How long did you date before you lived together?

“It was about 4 months before our parents agreed to rent us an apartment off-campus. We didn’t want them to think we were going to be spending all of our time having sex together, so at first, we pretended to just be roommates. But we did end up having sex all the time. So much so that I recall we each had knee and elbow burns from so much rubbing against the low-thread-count poly-cotton sheets.”

What is it about your mate that attracted you so much?

“I was very much into skinny, hung, blond jocks, so Duane fit the bill. He has always liked big muscle guys and cute/sexy faces, so while I wasn’t muscular, my face got my foot in the door of his heart. Oh, that would make a fabulous country-western song!

Do you have common interests?

Classic sitcoms (Mary Tyler Moore, Mary Hartman, the first three Lucy series, The Comeback, Roseanne…). And sexy younger Latino tops. Well, one in particular. He’s our collared boy.

Do you each have an interest that the other has none in?

Yes. Duane loves his Jeep and anything truck-related. I have a huge celebrity doll collection. But actually, we each share these interests with each other, so maybe the answer is “No”!

What’s the secret to your successful relationship?

Honesty, trust, friendship, humor. Also, good 3-way sex, emotional cruelty and some bondage.

Any advice for a dating couple?

Hmm, it’s been so long since we dated, and we pretty much went straight from dating to married. Plus, the world is very different now. OK, I’ll give it a shot and I’ll keep it relevant to 2015: always make sure your cell phone is charged so your man can find you. Always approve his photo tags on Facebook. And make videos of the two of you having sex, so in case it doesn’t last, you’ll have something fun to remember him by.

Bearnamic Duo – John & Frank

Meet Mid Century Modernists John & Frank from Palm Springs, with pieces featuring the Art Of John Murasky :

Hi John & Frank,

How did you guys meet?
“We met back in May of 1996, on AOL! Can you believe it? We met in the “Bears 4 Bears” chat room. We would chat online daily, but that evolved into daily phone calls, which made for some very expensive phone bills, since I lived in the Los Angeles area, and Frank was in Salem, MA.
We would actually watch movies on the phone. We would sync up the movies, on each end, and watch the whole thing over the phone! We would also send each other little gifts using the same cardboard box. I don’t know how many trips that little box made across the country, but we still have it! Sickening, I know. We finally had our first in-person meet at Walt Disney World in October of 1996. Frank eventually moved to CA in 1999.”

Do you have common interests?
“We both love mid-century modern design, classic movies from the 30s through the 60s…let’s see… what else… classic cars, cooking, classic disco, cartoons, animation, sci-fi, UFOs, ghosts, history,
and of course, the city we live in, Palm Springs!”

Do you each have an interest that the other has none in?
“We actually share pretty much all of our interests, but often one likes something to a higher degree than the other. Cars, for instance, is Frank’s big love. He knows all the models, makes, what they originally came with, what color they came in… I just think they’re cool and pretty. The opposite might be true for cartoons and animation.”

What’s the secret to your successful relationship?
“One word… Communication! We always tell each other what we’re feeling, what’s going on, all that.”

150623_477771998932373_1428914565_n 60061_477772062265700_818910967_n

Any advice for a dating couple?
“We would say, be open to all possibilities. It always makes me laugh when you hear guys saying “I’d never date a guy who does this, or looks like this, or is into that.” I just think they’re narrowing the field too much. They might miss out on the love of their lives because of one tiny thing. Or, they have this impossible laundry list of expectations, that no one will ever live up to.”

Thanks John & Frank! Cheers from the Modern Bears!

Meet Woofy Wesley from L.A.

Hi Wesley!

What’s your idea of a perfect date?
“Hmm this for some reason seems to be the hardest question to answer. This can go in so many directions. Obviously a perfect date would entail laughter, tons of flirting, furry kisses, butterflies and “excitement”.
I’m a big fan of dinner with some bad ass ambiance and a movie. Preferably in one of the theaters with the small couch/love seats so there’s groping and cuddle action.
I also can take it outdoors and do say, a hike and maybe a picnic in a secluded spot on a hill in the grass under a tree to watch the sunset.
Or there’s the hot hangout on the couch for as long as you both can resist, maybe 20-30 mins into a movie and then just go at it!”

How would you describe your personal interior design style?
“Rustic design, earthy contemporary and a little pop never hurt.”

What kind of music do you listen to?
“I pride myself in how all over the board I am with my music preferences. I pretty much like stuff from almost every genre of music. Some of my very favorites are.. The Grateful Dead, Lady Gaga, Bob Marley, Ella Fitzgerald, Notorious BIG and Phish.”

Location: Los Angeles / Hollywood
Height: 6’1
Hair: Brown
Eyes: Blue
Sign: Libra

Fitness Routine:
“I workout about 6 days a week and do about 30 mins of cardio a day, preferably the treadmill on full incline at a nice speed. I lift weights on all gym days and try to switch up my routine every few weeks to keep it interesting and to constantly shock and stimulate my muscles. I like to add in a good core routine once or twice a week to stay in good healthy shape.”

“Canine Recreations provider, I exercise and socialize doggies!”

“I love to dabble in some Art, creativity is fun. Fitness, weight lifting, Live music, concerts, cooking, watching movies, Travel adventures, LAZY BEAR WEEKEND, I’d say my job as well because I really love working with dogs, being in nature which I never feel like I get enough of. Hanging out with my friends and just being silly.”

Guilty Pleasure Snack: “Ice Cream, it’s the best.”

TV Faves:
“Game of Thrones, Sex and the City, Morgan Spurlock Inside Man, The Cosmos, Mankind the Story of Us All, Daredevil, Looking… To name a few, I’m more of a movie guy.”

Last good movie you saw:
“MadMax Fury Road. I’d give it 5 out of 5 stars. It was beautifully done and extremely entertaining. The main characters did a fantastic job and we’re both sexy as fuck….. And, I just got back from the movies before finishing this and saw Jurassic World.. It was fuckin KILLER!!!

Turn Ons:
“Guys who are not afraid to be THEMSELVES and let loose and have fun. Guys who care about their planet and the life that inhabits it. Optimism, sense of humor, self love, adventurous, confident, positive attitude, down to earth, muscles, cuddles, Fur and Beards.”

Turn Offs:
“Littering, bad attitudes, acting like someone your not, bad manners, Debbie downers, disrespect for animals, selfishness.”

Personal Philosophy:
“It’s always wrong to hate, but it’s never wrong to love.”

Meet Bear Rap Artist Big Dipper

Hey Big Dipper!
We’re looking forward to working with you in a couple of weeks at Lazy Bear! You’ll be the musical entertainment during “Project Bearway” which we’re hosting.

Were you a performer as a kid?
“Ha-ha yes! Community children’s theatre.”

When did you begin entertaining professionally?

How did it all start?
“I was performing in a dance trio at art parties and queer nightlife in Chicago and thru that scene was connected to people making music. I met Dan Foley who I collaborated with on all my first tracks. Both the music and the videos just sort of happened on a whim, it all developed pretty organically.”

What’s next for your career?
“I want to continue doing bigger and better things. More music, more videos, more traveling and performing and entertaining people. I just released an EP on iTunes called EXTRA GOOD and a new video for my song VIBIN. So I’m traveling around and promoting those projects this summer. Hopefully I’ll have a mixtape with new music coming out before 2016 :)”

11741267_927382753971293_3550574676511553822_o (1)

Of course, we need to ask you our “Beefcake of the Week” questions for our readers!

What’s your idea of a perfect date?
“I like excitement and fun! And I don’t want to be the one to make the plan. In my work life I’m constantly making decisions and being in charge, so I want to be taken out on the date, told what to do. A perfect date definitely includes good food, lots of conversation, and an exciting activity, like a show or concert or theme park or bike ride or something.

I also like to fuck first then hang out after :)”

How would you describe your personal interior design style?
“Chaotic lol. I haven’t really lived in my own space since I started performing and traveling so I’m always bouncing around or living on someone else’s terms. I’m attracted to color and organized clutter. I like clean and sleek, sure, but my reality is a mess…I love to keep things from my life and travels around me and paste notes and pictures on the walls. My life is about working and hustling and juggling 100 things at once; so my space often reflects that. I like lots on the walls, pictures and art, and I like to interact with the space I’m in, not just sit within its walls.”

What kind of music do you listen to?
“Rap, Pop, Hip Hop, R&B, Club.”

Location: Brooklyn
Height: 5’10”
Hair: “Brown on my head, Red in my beard, Black all over my body.”
Eyes: Brown
Sign: Aries

Fitness Routine:
“I have no routine; I’m incredibly skilled at being lazy and sitting on the couch working on my laptop. I like to do pushups and some good old fashioned sit ups from time to time. I lift weights when I go to the gym, but mostly just like to work up a sweat because that’s what always makes me feel the best. When I perform my live show, it’s quite the workout, and the ideal format to work up a sweat.”

Occupation: “Entertainer / Rapper / Director / Artist.”
Hobbies: “Biking, Watching Music Videos, Dancing, cutting my own hair.”

Guilty Pleasure Snack:

“Chocolate Chip Cookies dipped in peanut butter. (Guilty Pleasure Netflix show to go with the Snack: Gilmore Girls….I’m flying thru the seasons).”

TV Faves:
“Inside Amy Schumer, Grace and Frankie, and I’m obsessed with SENSE 8 on Netflix right now.”

Last Good Movie You Saw:
“I’ve seen a lot of mediocre of bad movies recently…..the last movie that I actually watched that I thought was great was ‘Death Becomes Her’…..but that’s old….in the theatre?….maybe not since ‘Imitation Game.’ Oh and ‘Tootsie,’ I just watched Tootsie on a plane; that movie is great!”

Currently Reading:
“I keep trying to read ‘The Tipping Point’ but it was written before social media and it’s all about trends in culture, marketing, and exposure, so it seems weird that is predates the internet…”

Turn Ons:
“Confidence, a nice smile, sense of humor, thick body, muscles or just heft, beards, likes to dance, uniqueness….I’m attracted to tall, short, muscle, chubby, most types, but there has to be something unique and special about them…..not those clone gays that act and think like everyone else.”

“Or the short answer: big dicked bottoms.”

Turn Offs:
“Bad Breath! Shadiness, liars, people who think money and status are the only things that matter, someone unwilling to try something new, no sense of humor.”

Personal Philosophy:
“I don’t think I really have one scripted and ready to go, but it’s all about love and happiness and respect and kindness. Love yourself and be kind to the people around you. Work hard for what you want, but be aware of your place and privilege in the world, and help those in need, and hear those who need to speak, and see those who need visibility. Have fun, eat good food, have lots of good sex and live that thick life.”

Currently Reading: “Redirect, by Timothy Wilson, 2011 If you want to know how to make permanent and lasting change in your behavior, or the behavior of someone you know, then this is the book to read. It tells you what does and doesn’t work based on research.”

Turn Ons: “A handsome interesting bearded face always gets my attention first – I’m a sucker for a great smile. Then I like big furry guys, my size and bigger. Age really doesn’t matter here. You’ve got to be a sane, loyal and very genuine guy. Someone who will settle for love, who’s able to commit and say “FUCK, YES!” to me – that’s my biggest turn on!”

Turn Offs: “I don’t need anyone constantly counting their calories, obsessing with keeping their sixpack in shape. I want my man to be able to enjoy a good beer and a pizza, too. Oh, and if you’re seeking validation from other guys while you’re dating me, we’re definitely not a match. Also drugs is a big no-no for me.”

Personal Philosophy : “This life is what you make it. No matter what, you’re going to mess up sometimes, it’s a universal truth. But the good part is you get to decide how you’re going to mess it up. Girls will be your friends – they’ll act like it anyway. But just remember, some come, some go. The ones that stay with you through everything – they’re your true best friends. Don’t let go of them. Also remember, sisters make the best friends in the world. As for lovers, well, they’ll come and go too. And baby, I hate to say it, most of them – actually pretty much all of them are going to break your heart, but you can’t give up because if you give up, you’ll never find your soulmate. You’ll never find that half who makes you whole and that goes for everything. Just because you fail once, doesn’t mean you’re gonna fail at everything. Keep trying, hold on, and always, always, always believe in yourself, because if you don’t, then who will, sweetie? So keep your head high, keep your chin up, and most importantly, keep smiling, because life’s a beautiful thing and there’s so much to smile about.” ― I had to quote Marilyn Monroe, because its just so true!!!

Personal Statement: I’m very thankful to have had someone mentor me at a young age and taught me the importance of participating in your community. I would advise anyone to find a local charity or non-profit in your area to volunteer for. I love you all and would love to see a stronger Gay Community who supports one another regardless of how masculine one is. ONE LOVE!
